San Antonio Zoo

San Antonio has stepped out of the customs to establish one of the best zoos in America. With lots to do and so much to see, the zoo should have a place in your trip’s schedule. Plan and enjoy a great day at San Antonio’s zoo, solo or with your family or friends; you’ll make unforgettable memories either way!

About San Antonio Zoo

When we say this isn’t your average zoo, we’re talking about the history of this place too. While San Pedro’s park displayed a small collection of animals, George Brackenridge brought exotic animals to the city and diversified the zoo’s collection. Today, San Antonio’s Zoo has climbed up the ladder and has one of the largest bird collections on a global scale, alongside 3500 animal species.

Things to Do

Here, you can see all types of animals living in their natural habitat. Go for the main attractions first. After all, they’re famous for a reason!

  • Africa Live!- Walk through a complete view of the great African beauties, from aquatic species like crocodiles and hippos to land animals like dwarf mongooses and African wild dogs.
  • Zoo Eagle Train- Not a fan of walking for hours? The zoo has you covered with a 30-minute train ride around the park where you can sit back, relax, and enjoy the whole experience with multiple stops in between.
  • Feed the Giraffes- Another famous visitor attraction, you’ll get to feed the giraffes and learn all about these long-necked friendly species with expert guides.
  • Amazonia: This side of the zoo specially caters to the tropical flora and fauna of the Amazon forest in their natural lifestyle.
  • Hixon’s Bird House: San Antonio Zoo lets them fly around in a glass-domed area instead of caging the birds. Behold! The experience is unlike birds of all sizes, shapes, and colors, living in an open environment.
  • Other Attractions- Besides these exotic species, the zoo has more to offer, e.g., Cranes of the World, Gibbon Forest, and Big Cat Valley.
